WHAT IS HACKCOUVER?

Hackcouver is a non-profit organization hosting, Vancouver's first high school hackathon oriented around business and technology. Participants form teams of 4 or 5, and take on an assigned business problem, where they will be given 24 hours to create an innovative and technological solution to the problem. During the event, participants will be given opportunities to network with Vancouver's tech community, learn from experienced mentors, listen to guest speakers, and achieve the best experience possible!

Most Hackathons involve the normal themes of coding and computer science. In Hackcouver, we decided to take a creative approach by implementing a new business theme. For this theme, you will be given a case study based based on a real world problem. From this problem, you can apply your business analytical skills by working with your team to create a prototype that solves the problem.

In Hackcouver we emphasze the usage between business and technology. From coding to analytical skills, you will need collaborate as a team by using these skills to create a prototype based on the case study.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's a Hackathon?

A hackathon is a design sprint-like event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers, project managers, and others, often including domain experts, collaborate intensively on software projects.

How big can my team be?

Teams are usually 4-5 people in size. Ideally, at least two technical students, one business student, and a user interface student. Don't worry if you can't find your team beforehand, staff at the event will help you find your teammates provide any assistance.

What if I don't have a team?

Have no fear! Many hackers are just like you, in the same position. On the first day of the event, we will make sure to pair everyone up with a team of hackers so no one gets left out! There will also be a session to network with people and form teams before the event.

What if I don't have any coding experience?

No worries! Hackathons are a great place for learning. We’ll have series of workshops to give you beginner knowledge for hacking so you’ll be ready in no time. Mentors will be walking around to help you with any problems you’ll face. By the time you walk out, you’ll have a new connections, skills, and a project under your belt

How is Hackcouver different than other Hackathons?

Most Hackathons involves individuals or team to self direct and self create a project. In Hackcouver, you will be tasked to use your programming and business skills, to collaboratively solve a real-life business challenge.
